Transforming Tastes: The New Wave of Cannabis Drinks
Transforming Tastes: The New Wave of Cannabis Drinks
Have you ever gone from “meh” to “hell yeah!” with a new product category? If you have been around since the early days of THC infused beverages then you know exactly what I am talking about. The early iterations of these beverages simply put - were not very tasty. And as an industry we have not always given beverages their proper spotlight.
I recently ask you all and my Linkedin followers about their first time trying cannabis beverages. The early reviews for most people were mixed. Someone described their first sip as “like accidentally sipping grandma's cough syrup.” Since those early days though, technology and formulations have drastically improved to the point where you can’t even tell there is THC in most of these beverages.
What sparked the change? Quite a lot. But don’t take my word for it, let’s look at some of the feedback I received. One reader shared,
“Initially, I was skeptical—the taste didn’t click, and I was unsure about the effects. But then, I found a brand that really suited my palate and needs. Now, it’s my Friday ritual to unwind.”
The beverages today, thanks to companies like Sorse Technology, Vertosa, and others, are meticulously crafted. These beverages rival your go-to soda, craft beer, or mocktails. We even have a better for you prebiotic soda now. It’s truly amazing how much growth I have witnessed just since starting this newsletter in early September 2023.
Another enthusiast commented, “I first tried a drink at a friend’s BBQ. It was surprisingly refreshing. It’s come a long way since then, and so has my appreciation!”
The consistency in dosing has particularly won over users. As brands have refined their formulations, the effects have become more predictable, enhancing trust and regular usage.
According to our feedback, over 65% of initially hesitant drinkers now find themselves reaching for a cannabis drink regularly. One put it simply, “It’s about the reliable experience. I know what to expect, and it fits perfectly into my relaxation time.”
These beverages have also started to carve out their space in social settings. They’re becoming the go-to choice for many looking to relax without the alcohol hangover. “It’s become my go-to for social gatherings,” shared a regular user. “It keeps the vibe light, and I can still wake up for a morning run.”
As we all know in this industry though, that it’s not without its challenges. The landscape of cannabis beverages remains murky with regulatory speed bumps and availability issues, making it a treasure hunt for many. But as one consumer noted, “Once you find your brand, it’s like a part of your lifestyle.”
The evolving market conditions also mirror the broader acceptance of cannabis in our culture. With more states easing regulations, these beverages are likely to become even more accessible, smoothing out some of the current challenges and making them a staple in more fridges. I experienced this first hand last week as Total Wine and More launched in my home state of Florida. It was surreal walking into the liquor store, seeing a GIANT end cap reading “THC Infused.” Honestly it was so amazing seeing that, and then even more so, the complete frictionless shopping experience. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes and didn’t show my ID one time or feel like I was doing anything illegal. Which if you’ve shopped in a dispensary, you know what I am talking about.
As more of you share your stories, it becomes clear that the journey from the first time user to now has not just been about product improvement. It’s also about how these products have integrated into aspects of everyday life, supporting relaxation, enhancing social connections, and offering a pleasant alternative to alcohol.
So, if you haven’t revisited the world of cannabis beverages since your first sample, you might just be missing out on something that has the potential to change your life.
We are just getting started, as I firmly believe this is the future of social drinking.
